Scottish Hydrogen Exports: Lifecycle Emissions, EU Compliance and Global Competitiveness

August 24 @ 13:00 14:00

Scotland has bold ambitions to ultimately export large volumes of low emission hydrogen to the EU:

Join this lunchtime Hydrogen Scotland webinar with Richard Taylor, Technical Consulting Director at ERM, on Monday, Aug 24th from 1 p.m.

Scotland has bold ambitions to ultimately export large volumes of low emission hydrogen to the EU, but the added emissions for these downstream supply chain steps can vary widely.

Drawing on ERM’s report for the Scottish Government, Richard will show how the lifecycle emissions of Scottish hydrogen exports compare relatively favourably to those of five competing regions (Norway, France, Morocco, Chile, USA).

The analysis includes pipeline, compressed ship and ammonia supply chain options where appropriate, for different electrolysis and gas reforming pathways, and forecasts potential improvements by 2030.

The presentation also explores the EU’s compliance requirements (which are changing again this year), and highlights why the definition of Scottish vs GB grid “bidding zones” could prove decisive.
