SUMMARY:Hydrogen Safety and Leak Detection
DESCRIPTION:This webinar with Megan Hine of Draeger Safety Ltd will examine some of the challenges involved in gas and leak detection in hydrogen systems. Megan will discuss aspects of hydrogen gas behaviour that make leaks difficult to detect and how this same gas behaviour can also increase safety compared to other fuels when these properties are considered as part of the design.\n\n\n\nDraeger has been in the business of detecting hydrogen for many decades. However\, introducing hydrogen to the energy industry brings new challenges. Megan will compare hydrogen to more widely used fuels and focus on the detection challenges specific to hydrogen gas releases and hydrogen fires—you might be surprised!  \n\n\n\nThis webinar will benefit not only those who need to design safe systems but also those who must demonstrate that the safety of plants and personnel is accounted for as part of the design and planning phase. It will cover aspects of hydrogen gas behaviour that make leaks difficult to detect and how this same gas behaviour can also increase safety compared to other fuels when these properties are considered as part of the design. \n\n\n\nMegan will discuss: \n\n\n\n\nProperties of hydrogen gas and how they differ from natural gas\n\n\n\nDetection options for hydrogen and how they work\, as well as information on map detector placement.\n\n\n\nWhich detection options are no longer possible for hydrogen (for example\, infrared open path gas detection\, meaning reduced ability to achieve area coverage)\n\n\n\nHydrogen flame detection principles\, what technology can be used to deal with hydrogen fires that humans can’t see\, feel\, or smell?\n\n\n\nThe presentation will be followed by Q+A\n\n\n\n\nRequest the Draeger H2 Safety e-Book here: https://www.draeger.com/en_uk/Safety/Clean-Energy-Solutions/Hydrogen-Safety\n\n\nAbout Draeger:Formed in 1889\, Draeger is still a family-owned company headed in its 5th generation by Stefan Draeger. We are dedicated to manufacturing safety equipment for high-hazard industries across the globe. Megan Hine has worked for Draeger for 6 years and is an Exida-certified fire and gas practitioner. She covers the full safety portfolio with a specialism in fixed gas and flame detection\, particularly in the energy industry. Draeger has been in the business of detecting hydrogen for many decades\, however\, introducing hydrogen to the energy industry brings new challenges. \n\n\n\nAbout Megan:Megan Hine has worked for Draeger for 6 years and is an Exida-certified fire and gas practitioner. She covers the full safety portfolio with a specialism in fixed gas and flame detection\, particularly in the energy industry. \n\n\n\nShe spoke at TEDx Dundee in 2016 and has been an annual guest speaker at the University of Aberdeen since 2021 on the subject of “Gas safety for the energy transition.” Draeger has been in the business of detecting hydrogen for many decades; however\, introducing hydrogen to the energy industry brings new challenges. \n\n\n\nIn this topic\, we will cover some important properties of hydrogen in gas and leak detection. This will include comparing hydrogen to more widely used fuels and focusing on detection challenges specific to hydrogen gas releases and hydrogen fires—you might be surprised! \n\n\n\nRegister here: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/4b3d7a2c-189f-44cb-a569-f0d79f753770@ac38fa5a-674b-4c32-810a-1aba0bd61a31
