SUMMARY:Hydrogen Safety and Leak Detection
DESCRIPTION:This webinar with Megan Hine of Draeger Safety Ltd will examine some of the challenges involved in gas and leak detection in hydrogen systems. Megan will discuss aspects of hydrogen gas behaviour that make leaks difficult to detect and how this same gas behaviour can also increase safety compared to other fuels when these properties are considered as part of the design.\n\n\n\nDraeger has been in the business of detecting hydrogen for many decades. However\, introducing hydrogen to the energy industry brings new challenges. Megan will compare hydrogen to more widely used fuels and focus on the detection challenges specific to hydrogen gas releases and hydrogen fires—you might be surprised!  \n\n\n\nThis webinar will benefit not only those who need to design safe systems but also those who must demonstrate that the safety of plants and personnel is accounted for as part of the design and planning phase. It will cover aspects of hydrogen gas behaviour that make leaks difficult to detect and how this same gas behaviour can also increase safety compared to other fuels when these properties are considered as part of the design. \n\n\n\nMegan will discuss: \n\n\n\n\nProperties of hydrogen gas and how they differ from natural gas\n\n\n\nDetection options for hydrogen and how they work\, as well as information on map detector placement.\n\n\n\nWhich detection options are no longer possible for hydrogen (for example\, infrared open path gas detection\, meaning reduced ability to achieve area coverage)\n\n\n\nHydrogen flame detection principles\, what technology can be used to deal with hydrogen fires that humans can’t see\, feel\, or smell?\n\n\n\nThe presentation will be followed by Q+A\n\n\n\n\nRequest the Draeger H2 Safety e-Book here: https://www.draeger.com/en_uk/Safety/Clean-Energy-Solutions/Hydrogen-Safety\n\n\nAbout Draeger:Formed in 1889\, Draeger is still a family-owned company headed in its 5th generation by Stefan Draeger. We are dedicated to manufacturing safety equipment for high-hazard industries across the globe. Megan Hine has worked for Draeger for 6 years and is an Exida-certified fire and gas practitioner. She covers the full safety portfolio with a specialism in fixed gas and flame detection\, particularly in the energy industry. Draeger has been in the business of detecting hydrogen for many decades\, however\, introducing hydrogen to the energy industry brings new challenges. \n\n\n\nAbout Megan:Megan Hine has worked for Draeger for 6 years and is an Exida-certified fire and gas practitioner. SUMMARY:SGN LTS Futures Project
DESCRIPTION:This Hydrogen Scotland member webinar on Monday\, September 9th\, is about the strategic LTS Futures project. Nancy Thomson of SGN will speak about the £30M Ofgem-funded LTS Futures project\, which is supported by the Scottish and UK governments to recommission the mothballed 30-kilometre local gas transmission pipeline that runs from Grangemouth to Granton in Edinburgh.\n\n\n\nLTS Futures is conducting a series of trials with hydrogen to prove the viability of repurposing existing local gas infrastructure for hydrogen use.The LTS Futures Project forms part of the UK’s national hydrogen research programme to deliver a Net Zero decarbonisation solution for customers. The project seeks to research\, develop\, test and evidence the compatibility of the Local Transmission System Assets (LTS) assets\, pipelines\, associated plant and ancillary fittings\, culminating in a ‘first of a kind’ repurposing trial and demonstration. \n\n\n\nNancy Thomson of SGN has over 16 years of experience in high-pressure onshore and offshore pipelines around the world\, including an MSc in Pipeline Integrity Management. For the last four years\, she has been leading the LTS Futures programme\, which is investigating repurposing and uprating the GB high-pressure gas networks to hydrogen. \n\n\n\nThe aim of the LTS Futures project is to demonstrate that the Local Transmission System can be repurposed and potentially uprated to convey hydrogen. This would provide options for the decarbonisation of power\, industry\, heat\, and transport by delivering a safe supply of energy to all customers both during and after the energy transition. \n\n\n\nThe current estimate is if the Local Transmission System is converted to transfer hydrogen then the cost of repurposing this LTS network will be between 15% and 30% of the costs of replacement\, significantly reducing the costs of decarbonisation through the hydrogen pathway. The live trial between Grangemouth and Granton will give a much greater understanding of the actual cost and potential for repurposing and uprating the network and\, in doing so\, inform the whole system transformation costs. \n\n\n\nRegister here: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/88247ab9-5707-44bf-896e-40ba61b94572@ac38fa5a-674b-4c32-810a-1aba0bd61a31

SUMMARY:Hydrogen Incidents- Are You Prepared?
DESCRIPTION:This Hydrogen Scotland member webinar by Inverroy Crisis Management is a must-attend for those interested in hydrogen-related incidents and responses.\n\n\n\nMatthew Wardner and David Payne will also share invaluable best practices from other sectors and underscore the vital role of Emergency Response/Crisis Management (ERCM) and Process Safety as complementary processes crucial for protecting lives\, investments\, and company reputation. \n\n\n\nMany people involved in Risk Management will be familiar with the Risk Bow Tie. This webinar will look at elements of the left side (i.e. what can be done before an incident) but will focus primarily on the right-hand side (i.e. how organisations should react after an incident) and how they should interact with third parties. During this webinar\, Matthew and David will discuss the following: \n\n\n\n\nEmergency Response/Crisis Management – A brief overview and how it links to Process Safety and the importance of crisis communications and stakeholder engagement\n\n\n\nWhat an effective Emergency Response Structure looks like and how it can be implemented\n\n\n\nThe benefits of early implementation – from assisting with planning approval to protecting your workforce\, reputation and investment\n\n\n\nThird party resilience – How confident are you that your critical contractors or suppliers are resilient enough to maintain their service to you? This will discuss steps you can take to protect yourself from the repercussions of incidents that affect others\n\n\n\n\nThe implementation of ERCM normally falls to those responsible for Health and Safety. However\, anyone involved with planning or managing a project needs to have an awareness of ERCM to ensure that the requirements for an effective response are included from the start rather than as a late\, and potentially more expensive\, addition \n\n\n\nRegister to attend here: https://events.teams.microsoft.com/event/d7a11805-3533-43e2-871d-661f92d3c403@ac38fa5a-674b-4c32-810a-1aba0bd61a31
